Giving back - Seva

It’s strange how giving back to the community can feel like virtue signaling. Maybe for some organizations, it is. But for Survivorz, giving back is a core part of who we are. In fact, it’s who I need to be.
Seva, which means “selfless service” in Sanskrit, is central to Sikhism. We believe you prosper in this life and beyond by giving back, looking out for others, and expecting nothing in return. Trauma support, mental health care, and support for those experiencing homelessness are often overlooked. Seva gives us an opportunity to redistribute some of the blessings we’ve received.
If it weren’t for the privileges I was afforded and the people who helped me when I was in crisis, I wouldn’t be here today. So who would I be if the organization I’m leading supported trauma and mental health recovery in principle but not in practice?
We have many goals with Survivorz, but giving back is our foundation. Our baseline is the 15% pledged to organizations that can put these resources to use.
Our end goal? Creating a place where no one has to feel alone with the cards life has dealt them. We can’t stop the pain life may cause you, but we can create a real community where you don’t have to feel ashamed or alone.
Remember, you’re not broken. You’re one of the Survivorz.
